Nashville: Johnny Cash Museum

Everything I know about Johnny Cash I learned from the movie "Walk the Line" (which I definitely want to re-watch after going to the museum). And maybe some of his most memorable songs like "Ring of Fire" and "Walk the Line" and "Hurt". 

So, really, I didn't know too much about him and his influence on music. So going to the Johnny Cash Museum had been on my Nashville to-do list for awhile.

And then when I saw the 2-for-1 deal via Groupon*, I was pretty excited. (*Expired now, but may come back.)

I know a lot of people that absolutely love Johnny Cash and to those people: this museum is definitely for you. But overall, after going through the museum, I'm not sure if I had to pay the $18 full price admission, I would have been super stoked about what I got from it.

Don't get me wrong, I love him too. And I learned a whole lot about him through the museum. My favorite part — the part that you couldn't necessarily Google — was seeing the letters he wrote to family and friends. It showcased his personal life and the way he interacted with people through the words he wrote them, and I gained a lot more of an understanding of what kind of person and friend he was. 

That aspect I really loved. And they do have a lot of his costumes — which, again, might be more meaningful to me if I really understood when they were worn and their significance. But most of everything else that wasn't tangible, I could research on Wikipedia or watch on YouTube. The museum itself felt a little tight, and you could spend just about an hour there to see and interact with everything. Which to me isn't a lot.

I felt like if someone that was visiting had to choose between the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum or the Johnny Cash Museum, you'd be able to get so much more from Country Music Museum for just a little more on price. 

But again, if you love Johnny Cash, I totally get it, and you really would love this museum and it would probably be worth everything to you. So walk that line! Or wait for a good deal and then go ;)
