Utah: Midway Ice Castles during the daytime
If you remember, I actually came out to the Midway Ice Castles last February at night. It was magical and fun, and also really cold. So when my dad, step-mom and her family came out to visit, it was definitely a top recommendation. I honestly didn't really consider going to visit the Ice Castles during the day, but because of time constraints and not many openings at night (you have to reserve your time online when you're buying your ticket), we opted to go in the late afternoon. And let me just assure you — they are completely different, but equally magical, experiences.
(I went back in January so the Ice Castles are not open anymore, but save these thoughts for next year when they reopen ;) )
The biggest night and day difference was there was less of a crowd which meant going on the slides was easy, and had a minimal if at all any wait time. We even got to race each other several times!
Another difference is the atmosphere. At night, there's projected colored lights onto the ice and it feels more enclosed because it's so dark outside. During the day, it feels a lot more open and the blue of the ice really stands out.
It's also way easier to take pictures. See all the memories below.
Overall, I would say they felt like two completely different experiences, but both equally worthwhile. Mark your calendars for next year!
Ps. Have you been to the ice castles during the day and night? Do you have a preference?
