Park City: Skiing & Snowboarding

Maddily Utah Sunrise

First off, one of my favorite sunrises of the year so far happened on this trip my dad and step-family took out to Utah. Take a moment and take it in. There was very little editing involved in that photo. Incredible, huh? It was one of my favorite parts of their trip visiting — waking up early with my dad, watching the sunrise, and getting breakfast together after.

Maddily Dad and me

As I mentioned, my dad and step-family came out and one of the main reasons was to have a ski/snowboarding trip. They rented a place in Deer Valley area and we went to Park City Mountain.

Unfortunately, the snow wasn't super heavy so a lot of it was icy when we went. I ended up only going for one day (I hadn't snowboarded in a couple years, and I also realized the snowboard I was using was too big (used to be my brother's)).

Even though it was a little icy, and I felt like a beginner all over again and took a couple hits to the ground, the scenery was beautiful and made it worth it. Matt, Luke and Mandy all went the following day too and more runs were open (plus they're a lot more skilled than I am).

We did suffer one injury — Clair hurt her shoulder on the last run on the first day (it's always that last run... remember when Matt hurt his knee a couple years ago?) and had to get the medic to toboggan her down to safety. I wanted to join the free ride too — snowboarding is exhausting.

The best part of the rescue were the dogs though — they were so cute and obedient!

Because half of us were out of sorts the next day, it was actually nice to relax, walk around Park City and check out some of the cool things around there. I need to go back. Especially now that it's warmer!
