Utah: Boating on Bear Lake

At the start of the summer, we went to one of the beaches on Bear Lake and had the classic raspberry shake and basically enjoyed the incredible blue of the water. This second experience at Bear Lake near the end of the summer, before I started grad school, was completely different. We were invited by Matt’s friend, Nate, to hang out with him and friends up at the lake and go boating. Honestly, I expected to go out on a boat, enjoy some sunshine for an hour or two and head back. But this was a 9-5pm adventure day! It was the perfect summer day and Nate’s friends were so nice – they shared all of their lake toys with us including their jet-skis, wakeboards, kneeboards, and even brought food for everyone!

Lounging on the boat enjoying the sunshine of this beautiful summer day was great, but then to add all the other fun stuff was even better. I had the hardest time getting up on the wakeboard, but got pretty skilled on the kneeboard. It was more fun for me watching everyone else wipe out. It had also been so long since I had been on a jet-ski — I used to be so fearless when I was younger, and tried to channel some of that. And also whip some water on Matt. ;)

There were fires in the hills at this time so there were planes that would come by, dip into the water to collect it and then go back to dump it onto the fire. It was sad that the fire was burning so much, but I’m glad they had the lake as a resource to do this!

Bear Lake has many opportunities and ways to enjoy it’s beautiful water (although still cold), and boating is a top recommendation.
