Flower Fields Forever (but actually until May 10th)

You now have one week left to see, smell, and frolic (with limitations) in The Flower Fields in Carlsbad.

Britt and I went when there was still more acres to bloom, but even then it was so cool seeing fields of flowers in designated colors lining the ground. They're open through May 10th (this weekend!) and tickets cost $12, and an additional fee (I think it was $5 each) for the wagon ride (which I recommend – super fun!), plus if you want some sprinkle ice cream it's another expanse. Bring cash.

In addition to walking around the fields and seeing all the "Ranunculus" (I keep saying it as "redonkulous" but obviously that's not a word...) in bloom, there's also a sweet pea maze, and a small rose garden.

You can't walk in-between the flowers and run through them, but there's pathways that you can go into that bring you within the field.

If you're driving from Los Angeles like we did, there's a nice look-out point on the way near the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. But be careful that you have enough gas in your car on this drive, because until you get to Oceanside there's a good stretch of time and miles that there's no gas station. I was at zero miles with zero bars left when we pulled into a gas station. There was a misunderstanding of how close the gas station was, so we thought we'd be OK, and then when we got back in the car and plugged in "gas station" to our GPS, nothing showed up anymore. Kind of scary. But also pretty funny. We survived.

In addition, on the way back we stopped in San Onofre to watch the sunset.

It was a lot of driving in one day, and it would have been nice to stay the night in San Diego and make more of an entire weekend out of it, but I was really excited I got to see these fields, and Britt was happy that she fulfilled her photography assignment. So it was a win on all fronts.
