Utah: Saratoga Hot Springs

It's really incredible to me the diversity of things you can do in Utah for 1) free and 2) without crowds.

Part of the reason I've loved doing my @sundayglow project is how many new places I've found as a result of it. Waking up for sunrise has led me to some really incredible spots such as the Saratoga Hot Springs

I've been to the park area to watch the sunrise a number of times, but I didn't actually realize there were hot springs until the third time when I saw a guy coming out to his car in a bathing suit. I committed to checking it out at some point, and when Krystal came to visit, it seemed like a perfect time.

So first, we watched the sunrise — walking across a creaky bridge, through cattails, and generally being in awe of the whole scene before us.

We then journeyed on to the hot springs. It was about 1/3 of a mile or so to get there. In the research I did beforehand, some had said parts were muddy, but until we got to the springs themselves, we didn't experience that. From the parking lot (which does have restrooms/changing rooms), you take the obvious path in front of you:

Then you'll come to a more green and dirt path:

And finally, you veer left a bit, toward the lake, and in thirty seconds you'll come out to this:

Krystal and I were kind of weary about actually going in the water. It was kind of chilly outside since it was so early in the morning, so taking off our warmer clothes, to get in some muddy looking water with who-knows-what in it made us hesitant. Thank goodness she was there though, because getting in together didn't seem as bad. And it actually felt so good once we got comfortable in it.

The mud at the bottom was pretty slippery, but the water was a perfect warm temperature. Almost like being in a jacuzzi but without the jets, and a little less hot. You could see the steam coming off the water too. Plus, the view around us was great. I felt more like a Utahan, embracing nature in this quiet, beautiful setting that felt like an undiscovered secret all our own.

Eventually, another person came, but he told us about another hot spring just a little further through the cattails – toward the lake and to the right. It was a bit smaller and more secluded (ps. look at that beautiful blue sky!):

Overall, I was really excited to go to my first natural hot spring. I've heard about so many more that are apparently even better than this one! But for an easy walk, seclusion (might have to go early in the morning), and refreshment, this is still a worthwhile one to check out.

Plus, my friend Chloe lives nearby and she made us a full breakfast after! #breakfastnotalwaysincluded #perks
