Nashville: Hattie B's Hot Chicken

image.jpg

I'm not really one for hot and spicy. But Hattie B's is worth the heat. The sauce makes the chicken a little messy, but you can wash your hands later. And you actually do have a say in how hot you want it — I stay with the medium heat. The small white or dark meat plate — which includes two sides (Pimento Mac & Cheese + French Fries is my fave) is enough for me, but if you're in a go big or go home kind of mood they've got some larger sized portions.

Hattie B's is pretty well-known, so prepare for a wait. I've usually never had to wait that long, and the line goes quickly anyways, but when Whitney was visiting we tried to go around 3:40pm on a Saturday and the line went around the entire front of the building. I went to the one they just opened on Charlotte's Pike (versus the one I've been to before on 19th) and it's bigger with lots more parking options.

And if you're not in Nashville but want a sampling of the magic, Food Network has a recipe trying to recreate the taste.
