Los Angeles: Perch & Mrs. Fish
By the time we went through the art exhibits in Chinatown, we were really really hungry. Eugene left us and we hopped in our cars again to make one final downtown trek: Pershing Square. And more specifically, Perch & Mrs. Fish.
But before either of those was pizza at the place next door: Hill Street Pizza
I only mention the pizza place because we didn't expect anything from it, but it turned out to be an amazing piece of pizza. No joke. Maybe it was because we were hungry and anything would taste great at that point, but I doubt it. You can't appreciate that kind of goodness just because you're hungry.
Once we were filled with good food, we stood in line for Perch. If you get there early, there's usually no line, but as it was a Saturday night, and it's also a bar in addition to having one of the best views of downtown — you're going to have to wait.
Sidenote: Perch is not only a rooftop bar/lounge, there's also a restaurant that looked pretty swanky cool. You most likely need reservations. Because #theview.
It felt very exclusive once we got in. You had this entire rooftop to take in the skyscrapers you were surrounded by and see the car lights down below. And despite them monitoring the amount of people up top, it was slightly crowded with limited seating. Since we had been on our feet all day, April and I were pretty ready to just sit somewhere. So we didn't stay too long. Just enough to appreciate the atmosphere.
I was actually so impressed with the view and the comfy chairs (once we did get to sit down) that on another Los Angeles adventure day with my friends Whitney and Chris (which will be coming up next!) that I took them to Perch during the day! It was a completely different vibe because there was no line, and it wasn't very crowded. We easily got a seat, Chris got something to drink, and we just lounged up there taking in the evening view. And then we went to our final final stop: Mrs. Fish.
Perch and Mrs. Fish are actually in the same historic Pershing Square building but have completely different feelings to them. Even by their websites you can tell that the tone and ambiance are like night and day. It's kind of interesting to me that for one place, you're high above the ground, and for the other, you're way below (as in, basement style). Mrs. Fish even has an aquarium that runs through the whole place as if you're underwater. Honestly, the aquarium part was cool but it wasn't as large as I was expecting. Still fun to see all the little fish swimming above your head.
In addition to the cool, spirited vibe of Mrs. Fish, (which was way more upbeat than the laid-backness of Perch) they also have performers. That night was this lively drum-set performance that was so rhythmic and fun. We stayed for most of their performance before walking around the rest of the venue and then heading out into the Los Angeles night, nearly one in the morning I believe.
It was a very full, very Los Angeles, day, from start to finish.
