Afters Ice Cream

If you're looking for a really sweet treat this weekend, go here.

Afters Ice Cream is another experimental mix of two good things coming together to create one great thing. This seems to be the trend nowadays — beginning with cronuts — but I'm not complaining.

They've chosen to combine donuts and ice cream into one very sugary ice cream sandwich. And that's not even including the interesting choices of ice creams they have like Cookie Monster (which includes a vanilla base mixed with oreos, chips ahoy, and something else she told me that might explain why it's blue), and Milk & Cereal.

The line usually wraps out of the entry and around the building. We were fortunate to go early enough to miss that.

Once we got to the ice cream, I made sure to sample a bunch (because that's a necessary part of all ice cream choosing experiences right?) before I made a final decision to go with Cookie Monster ice cream and a glazed "milky bun" as they're called. And then I added extra oreos because oh ya, you can add your own toppings meaning more sugar please!

At first bite, I wasn't in love. It was a lot to take in, and not what I expected exactly. The milky bun was warm and soft, and then there was the ice cream that was actually really good but on it's own was enough to handle.

And then it just kept getting better with each bite. Maybe because of the way the ice cream was soaking into the bun. But whatever it was, it was completely worth driving out to Fountain Valley for.

The only thing was that even though my sugar tolerance is pretty high, I really couldn't finish the entire thing. Luckily my friend didn't order one, so she ate the rest of mine. I'm not one to waste food.

PS. They've got two locations so far — the one we went to in Fountain Valley, another one in Chino Hills, and another one in Tustin. And they're still growing!
